Bridal Hair Accessories // Flower Crown

If you're looking for a unique wedding hairstyle, you may want to consider a handmade flower crown as an alternative to jewelry hairpieces...

Here at Styling the Bride and Substance Salon, we love to have fresh-cut flowers every week by our brilliant florist from Vine and Branches, Damaris Melendez.

We have collaborated with Damaris to offer our brides beautifully handmade flower crowns that are truly the perfect accent to a wedding day hairstyle!

Traditionally, the flower crown was mainly recognized in a more Bohemian style wedding, but recently it has gained more popularity and is making an elegant impression to a broader fashion scene.

BOOK AHEAD//

Set up appointments in advance to make sure your hair stylist is available to cater to your hair's needs. Pro Hair Stylist Brooke says,

"Choose three trials to play with, but if you're confident in a style, schedule the trial 3-5 months in advance. You want to set it in stone, leaving room for any mind changes or ideas."

KEEP HAIR HEALTHY//

Brooke says,

"If it's color, we want to make sure you reach your goal healthy and slowly."

She suggests to keep up with trims, and ask for a hair treatment before each service to bring you insurance to keep your hair happy and healthy.

BROOKE'S THREE WAYS to MAINTAIN HEALTHY HAIR//

1. Utilize the correct products for your hair type. Pro Hair Stylist Brooke suggests using Unite’s 7 Seconds Leave In Conditioner because it contains heat and UVB protection to make sure you lock in maximum moisture with maximum protection from heat and environmental damage.

2. Shampoos and conditioners play a big part in keeping your hair healthy.  Make sure your shampoo has no sulfates, which tend to weaken hair over time and wash out the hair’s natural moisture.  Hair is prone to breakage from long-term use.  Look for more botanical-based products which are efficient and healthier for your hair.

3. Brooke also recommends deep conditioning two to three times a week to build strength and lasting moisture in the hair.

PLAN AHEAD//

Pro Hair Stylist Kristy Post says,

“Book your trial a couple of months in advance with your hair stylist. Also, be prepared to bring hair inspiration photos along with a picture and/or description of your wedding dress. You should consider your hair texture, length, and your everyday go-to style when deciding your final look.”

PICK A STYLE//

Our pro says,

“If you wear your hair down all the time, you may not feel comfortable with an up-do swept away from your face.”

Your wedding day hair should compliment your natural beauty and enhance your features. Kristy encourages, “Comfort is key.”

FIND A STYLIST//

Also, remember that every hair stylist does not do up-style/wedding hair, so ask in advance or ask for a recommendation. Another option is to ask family and friends for referrals.

Kristy Post says it’s important to remember,

“Trials are for trying different styles and playing with different looks until you fall in love with one.”

CARE FOR YOUR HAIR//

Keeping your hair healthy during the months leading up to your wedding is imperative.

KRISTY POST'S THREE TIPS ON PRE-WEDDING HAIR UPKEEP//

1. Trimming the dead-ends every 6-8 weeks will prevent splitting and breakage.

2. Also, if you’re unfamiliar with glaze, ask your stylist for more information. Glazes boost dull, drab hair while adding shine. There are clear glazes or tinted ones to keep your color fresh and full of life. Glazes are my favorite way to vamp up hair.

3. Also, if you are a blonde or looking to lighten your hair worry-free without damage or breakage, Olaplex is insurance for the hair and will rebuild broken hair. It will strengthen your strands so that any lightening process is healthy.”

Add drama to your down-style, get Clip-in Extensions!

If you’re anything like me when I got married, you LOVE long full hair!  I was determined to grow my hair as long as I possibly could until the big day.  I found, however, that even though it was long, it wasn’t as full as I wanted it to be.  This is when I gave in to getting myself some clip-in extensions, and what a difference more hair makes!
I have to say I couldn’t stop flipping my hair around, I felt so glamorous.  I wore my hair down and softly curled.  Had I not worn the extensions it would’ve looked much shorter because of the curl factor.
Mostly all my brides who are wearing their hair down are choosing to get clip-ins as well.  It can really add a whole new look to your hair.  Once you have them you can use them for other special occasions.  How fun would it be to wear them at your bachelorette party?  Or just for a night out with your new hubby!
Here are some before and after pics of girls without and with extensions:

Here are some of our brides who wore clip in extensions for their weddings:

Clip in extensions are much more affordable than bonded or sewn-in extensions, and you can put them in and take them out on your own.    They are a great way to add some “wow” factor to your bridal hairstyle.
